Oak flooring
Oak flooring for Somerset Barn conversion adds finishing touch: Since being initially involved in the design and engineering stage of a conversion of five barns to a residential home in Shearston, Somerset, in conjunction with Jackson Architects, The Bucknall partnership and the client (see case study), providing green oak structural items such as, trusses, posts, wall plates and lintels, Peter Quinain Hardwoods of Devon, have also supplied a considerable proportion of the finishing detail for the property; we were pleased to be able to provide 200 square metres of oak flooring, (see photograph) this was engineered oak flooring board to go over underfloor heating and covered the whole of the first floor including the provision of skirting and beading to finish around the green oak posts. This involved the bespoke manufacturing of three lengths of "curved" oak skirting which we engineered through lamination of oak veneers to a curved former built on site. The oak flooring has complimented the design and the structural green oak and the kiln dried oak used to manufacture the windows and oak doors.
The client has been extremely pleased with the level of service and the finished result from Quinains and we, in turn have been pleased to assist in the project, to completion.
