Case study
Self Build - St Ives
We first met Mark in the autumn of 2005 at the self build show held at West Point arena near Exeter when he was in the process of researching suppliers and materials for his self build project in St. Ives.
We subsequently arranged for Mark and his father, who has been in the building trade all his working life, to come to our office to meet the team and discuss his interesting project in more detail.
Having previously studied his design drawings; several items and potential issues were discussed including roof design and bracing, plus eaves and rafter detail. Also finishes to exterior and interior structural Oak and cladding were explored. This dialogue helped Mark avoid costly issues and complications further into the build sequence of his project.
Thereafter, Mark instructed us to produce king post trusses, purlins etc. which through a partner company, we supplied and erected on site. We were also able to advise, as the project developed, on supply of exterior cladding and fillets.
From a take off from the architectural drawings and liaison with the client's structural engineer, we provided green Oak to a local joinery firm to produce a feature green oak glazed atrium.
We made bespoke external and internal doors, and also supplied contemporary engineered internal oak doors some of which were fire rated to meet with building regulation requirements.
Mark comments: "my initial impression was that the team at Peter Quinain's knew what they were talking about. By using their help and advice from the outset of the project has helped it to stay on track, reduced costs and avoid costly and complicated issues further into the project."
Mark is now talking to us about the supply of engineered or solid Oak flooring that is suitable for under floor heating.
